From UK Guru Stu Turnbull....
Everyone’s favourite Redhook destination Barcelona has just been and for the first year we had two people riding in it for Cadence UK.
Day 1 - Our four man crew flew out on the Wednesday (wide bar Wednesday still applied) so we could arrive in time to check in to our room select the ‘challenges/dares that we set for each other for the trip from the hat ( 4 each King Of The Road Style ) and build the bikes ready to make the trip to the Velodrom D’horta on Thursday a day that’s now very much part of the Redhook experience in Barcelona.
Day 2 - We rose early to meet everyone at a great little bike shop in the city called My Beautiful Parking which has some great people working there and a rad shop dog – about 15 of us set off led out by Redhook organiser David Trimbel to make the uphill ride to the velodrome – as the early morning sun started to heat up we knew we were in for a hot day – the track was amazing and we got to ride plenty eventually retiring to hide in the shade as the heat got to unbearable and was reflecting back off the boards ( 35 degrees was the temp at one point ) so we sat and watched those braving it out for a while followed by a nice downhill ride back to the city for food and some cold beers that turned into a full night of adventuring bar / club hoping till early hours of Friday morning !!!!
Day 3 - Friday was a beach day to recover from the night before, before it starts all over again at the now ritual pre-race party at the Dosnoventa bike shop that evening – we arrived only to find lots of police at the venue asking everyone to disburse and move on as they proceeded to shut the party down! We left in search of food and an early night ready for race day on Saturday.
Day 4 - Race day all was good Sammy and Chai were up and set to ride quailing group 5 early afternoon – the course was great and fast with that killer hairpin that caught a few riders out – they were in the same group as some of our brothers from different mothers Team Full Denim Jkt so great to see them all together on the start line – both rode well and didn’t crash but unfortunately weren’t fast enough to make it to the last chance race but learnt some valuable lessons and more importantly had fun and enjoyed it !!!! With their days racing over it was time to sit back and enjoy catching up with everyone and watching some of the world’s top men and women crit rides from all over the world battle it out – a great day riding followed by some cold beers and the now legendary after party where everyone enjoys a well deserved drink or 10 !!!
Day 5 - Sunday was a recovery day (from riding and the after party !) we took a long ride along the coast followed by some fresh local food and a relaxing night packing up and deconstructing the bikes as we are due to fly home the next afternoon.
Day 6 – Sun trip to the beach before the flight home.
Thanks Barcelona / Red hook and all the usual suspects and new friends we made on this trip bring on 2017 and a fresh race season and some new riders for the team.
